Maureen Alderes, PT, Instructor, Canadian Institute for Mobility and Aging

Maureen Eagle Aalders is a registered physiotherapist in Nova Scotia, is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She has 35 years experience as a physiotherapist, primarily as a clinician, but with experience as an educator as well. The vast majority of her career has been spent working in a number of long term care settings through the department of health with seniors who have mobility challenges. Many of these seniors also present with dementia and related challenges. Maureen also has experience assessing and treating persons in placement through the department of community services who present with multiple physical, mental health and/or behavioral challenges. Maureen instructed the body mechanics, ergonomics and fall prevention modules for the licensed practical nurse and continuing care assistant programs in all of the local community colleges for over ten years as well as through various contractual training programs for eight years previously. She is also a certified instructor in Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention and has augmented physiotherapy intervention in long term care with Tai Chi. Clinical interests include: Benefits of Tai Chi for Healthy Aging, Safe Mobility for Seniors and Ergonomics.
